My name is Pappy and I have a problem: I talk (and write) a lot in my reviews. I knew the review for the Taylor 816CE would be a long one, and I wanted to try some new things, so I recorded an audio version of the review for you to take with you on your run, or drive to work, or just to avoid the fatigue that would come from reading four pages of my review (link above). Another perk is being able to listen to the audio samples through better speakers (car) or better headphones. So go ahead and download the latest Guitar Noize podcast, hosted by me, and listen to the review. Also, be sure to click HERE to see the written review, all the awesome photos, and to see the videos that accompany the audio samples!

Nick Johnston is a truly talented guitar player from Canada whose solo albums ‘Public Display of Infection‘ and ‘In a Locked Room on the Moon‘ have both been featured on Guitar Noize and ‘In a Locked Room on the Moon’ was one of my top picks of 2013. I spoke to Nick about his roots as a guitar player and teacher and how this has influenced his unique style of composition that really makes him stand out in the world of instrumental guitar music, so much so that Paul Gilbert and Guthrie Govan agreed to guest on his latest release.

It has been a while since I posted an episode of The Guitar Noize Podcast but what better way to make a return than to interview one of the hottest talents of Metal guitar, Chimaira’s Emil Werstler. In this interview I talk to Emil about his involvement with Chimaira going back to The Infection tour where he was not only playing in his own band Daath supporting them but also as the second guitarist for Chimaira, also his stint as the Bass player and moving forward as the lead guitar player and a songwriter for the new line up. We also chat about his love of teaching and his philosophies on guitar, touring and of course we talk about his gear including his involvement with PRS Guitars.
For more information on Emil check out Chimaira’s website – http://www.chimaira.com/.
You can also subscribe to Emil’s lessons over at Jamplay.com where he covers such topics as economy picking, Diminished Chromaticism and Jazz up your pentatonics. Emil is a brilliant teacher and obviously a virtuosic player so I definitely recommend checking these lessons out.

The album covers a lot of different styles of acoustic playing and moods with flavours of Morocco, France, Nashville and Bruce’s home, Australia.

Kaki King has been astounding audiences around the world for a decade now with her virtuosic control including her percussive two handed techniques of the acoustic guitar. Kaki’s sixth album ‘Glow’ has just been released and is a record filled with lush soundscapes provided by her interesting choice of instrumentation. As you will see in the video below and hear in the interview Kaki uses some very cool instruments on Glow as well as string ensembles to add an extra dimension to her compositions. The production is really great, solo acoustic tracks are subtly enhanced with percussion elements or tremelo guitar drenched in reverb so as not to interfere with Kaki’s incredible playing.
Kaki King is about to embark on an almost month long tour of Australia, here are the dates:

Viking Guitar Virtuoso Mattias Eklundh has just released his latest Freak Guitar solo project album called The Smorgasbord through Steve Vai’s Favored Nations label and it is not only brilliant but also chock full with 40 tracks! Adrian Holovaty is the developer behind the incredibly clever site Soundslice.com, an online application that allows you to search for YouTube videos that have been “tabbed” by one of the Soundslice community. If you are someone who can TAB a song you can search for your favourite YouTube videos yourself as a member and use the simple user interface to quickly provide TAB for other users to learn licks or complete songs.

I recently reviewed the latest solo album from guitar legend Steve Lukather, “Transition” (read the review here). I was lucky enough to squeeze in an interview with Steve at the end of a very long day of promotional interviews before he was about to head off on tour with Ringo Starr And His All-Starr Band for The Guitar Noize Podcast.

I recently recorded a video interview with UK Fusion guitarist Tom Quayle to talk about his new custom Fibenare Roadmaster ’56 Guitar. I wrote an article on Fibenare Guitars for Guitar Connoiseur magazine which you can check out here – http://thefirstissue.guitarconnoisseur.com/files/38.html, they are a really cool family business that make some extraordinary instruments, definitely worth checking out.
Tom is an amazing musician who has a load of great lessons available for purchase on his website and you can also arrange 1 hour Skype lessons which are also very worthwhile, I have had a lesson myself and Tom is a brilliant, relaxed and inspiring teacher. Tom also works for Guitar Interactive Magazine which I’m sure you’ve all probably checked out by now but if not is another great online mag with regular lesson columns from Tom as well as gear reviews.

I have included the video below in case you would like to see it but I thought I would also make this interview available as a Podcast episode too.
