Remember when Vox released the AmPlug? I immediately put it on my Christmas wish list and lo and behold Santa brought me one for Xmas 2008, check out my review here – http://www.guitarnoize.com/santa-brought-me-a-classic-rock-amplug/. Well now Vox have teamed up with Audio Technica to release the next generation in portable practice amplification by combining the AmPlug technology with a pair of headphones which they call the AmPhone. Above you can see the AC30 version and there are also “Twin”, “Lead” and “Bass” versions available depending on your needs. An addition for the AmPhone that isn’t available in the AmPlug versions are a number of included effects: chorus/delay/reverb for the guitar versions, and a compressor for the bass version. There is also an AUX input jack which lets you jam along with your CD/MP3 player. Oh and in case you are wondering, when the power is off the amPhones can be used as a conventional pair of Audio Technica headphones.
It’s a shame they didn’t roll all three amps into one pair of headphones considering that these days people can easily plug into their smartphone or tablet and have an array of amps and effects at their fingertips, having said that though I think it is a great idea.
