UglyMetronome
When Russell from C2K Learning Technologies contacted me about his new iPhone App UglyMetronome I have to admit I was a little bit apprehensive but downloaded it to see why it was so ugly, but more importantly would I use it? When the app loaded I agreed, yes it is indeed ugly especially compared to my other app Pro Metronome so I decided to compare the two.

“She may not look like much, but she’s got it where it counts, kid”

I don’t think I’ve ever quoted Star Wars before on Guitar Noize but this seems to be the perfect phrase to sum up UglyMetronome. If you practice with a Metronome, say you are working on a lick and you want to increase the speed at which you can play it you want to start with a slow tempo, let’s say 80bpm, and every so often you want to increase that tempo until you can play the lick at full speed. With my other Metronome app it has so many features that it is actually quite difficult to do something simple like this, UglyMetronome has easy to hit big buttons that allow you to increase/decrease the tempo by either 1 or 10bpm. On the right side you can see you are also able to chose 2x, 1x, 1/2 or 1/4 speed if you prefer and there is a tap tempo button. What more do you need really for practice? In my opinion nothing, and this app only costs $0.99 so really it’s a no brainer.
