Mid-Priced guitars are a bit of a new trend, obviously Fender have been doing it for years by moving production to various international factories but more recently other companies have been experimenting with this mid-price range including Ibanez and ESP. Now PRS Guitars are dipping their toes in the water by introducing 3 guitars under the new S2 (Stevensville 2) series, the difference being that these guitars are still made in the US. The second manufacturing line created inside the PRS Stevensville, MD shop blends new manufacturing techniques with practiced quality control and workmanship to create instruments at a new price point for players. The S2 Series will be in stores in early August and will be made up of the S2 Mira ($1,179), the S2 Starla ($1,249), and the S2 Custom 24 ($1,399).
Mahogany-body S2 instruments are available in six colors: Antique White*, Black*, McCarty Tobacco Sunburst, Seafoam Green*, Sienna and Vintage Cherry.
Maple-body S2 instruments are available in seven colors: Antique White*, Black*, Black Cherry, Blue Crab Smokeburst, Dark Cherry Burst, Gray Black and McCarty Tobacco Sunburst.
All 2 guitars feature a PRS Pattern Regular neck, PRS S2 Locking Tuners, Nickel hardware and a Rosewood fretboard. There are differences however with the bridge configurations, fretboard inlays etc. per model which you can check out here.
“This significant investment from PRS is the continuation of a long-term plan to diversify the company and its offerings both vertically and horizontally and to supply more artists and players with tools to create music. With their retro-inspired vibe, hallmark PRS quality, and popular pricetag, the S2 Series is perhaps the strongest example of this yet from PRS.”
