It’s crazy to think that 2 years ago when I met to chat with Joe Bonamassa before his show at Sydney’s Factory Theatre (see review here) that he told me he had no idea if he had Aussie fans and that gig was a tester, a small venue with only 1000 tickets available. Joe realised that yes he had a huge following and so he returned in 2011 and played at The Enmore Theatre (see review here). 2012 sees Joe return once again and with yet another brilliant solo album and playing another new venue in Sydney, this time The State Theatre, a favourite of B.B. Driving Towards The Daylight, Bonamassa’s “lucky13th” album, is a back-to-basics release that highlights his signature style of roots-blues with rock-and-roll guts, while honouring the traditions of the original blues musicians.
To challenge Joe and move him out of his comfort range, a unique group of special guests including Australia’s Jimmy Barnes and Aerosmith’s Brad Whitford were gathered. The album features 4 Bonamassa-penned originals including the bruising opener Dislocated Boy, the road warrior title track (and 1st single) Driving Towards The Daylight, Heavenly Soul, and Somewhere Trouble Don’t Go.
The 2012 Australian tour is in support of Driving Towards The Daylight as well as the recently released DVD/Blu-ray Joe Bonamassa: Beacon Theatre – Live From New York, which debuted at #3 on the Billboard DVD Chart.
