I was a bit skeptical about the Jet City RetroValves when I first saw them but after hearing the demo I am intrigued and definitely want to give them a go. The reason that I was initially skeptical and many other guitarists will be too is because these devices emulate 12AX7 tubes, they are solid state devices that react in the same or similar way to preamp tubes. Now this idea is not new and in fact JCA have bought or licensed this technology from Roberts Audio Technologies I believe but I hadn’t seen any convincing demos before now.

Here are some of the benefits of RetroValves:

  • Low noise and no microphonics and obviously no glass to break.
  • Exceptional longevity
  • Designed to operate in a variety of guitar amplifier designs
  • Work with and in place of vacuum tubes
  • Consume less power than standard 12AX7 Tubes reducing thermal stress on amp electronics

RetroValves come in three different models:

  • Lower Gain – Blue
  • Standard Gain – Amber
  • Higher Gain – Red

They are so robust, JCA warrants RetroValves to be free from defects in material and workmanship affecting form, fit, and function for the lifetime of the product.
