Back in 1990 Guitar World did a feature on Steve Vai’s 10 hour guitar workout which I remember clearly buying at the time and sitting down for a couple of hours a day to go through the tabbed exercises. Now I didn’t have the patience or quite frankly the intention of sitting down for 10 hours a day practicing when I was 14 years old but they were very useful exercises for me to warm up to and to help develop strength. I don’t remember it being a 30 hour workout did that come later? Anyway now Hal Leonard have recreated this epic series of exercises as a book called ‘Steve Vai’s Guitar Workout’.
In this book, Steve Vai reveals his path to virtuoso enlightenment with two challenging guitar workouts – one 10-hour and one 30-hour – which include scale and chord exercises, ear training, sight-reading, music theory, and much more. These comprehensive workouts are reprinted by permission from Guitar World magazine.
The book costs $14.99 and is available here.
