T-Rex describe the Totenschlager Tonebug pedal as “…a little black box of fire-breathing distortion you’ll never want to live without once you’ve heard what it can do.” I have to say I was blown away by just how much distortion this pedal produces without getting all mushy. The pedal has simple controls as you can see in the demo, a Gain control, a Volume control and a 3 band EQ. The EQ sliders are a little stiff and because it is being squeezed onto a pedal you do have to make very small incremental adjustments because believe me the EQ makes a huge difference and makes this a very versatile distortion pedal.
In the demo above I’m using my Taylor SB2-S fitted with Taylor’s Vintage Alnico Humbuckers so these are low output, I then plugged into the Totenschlager and into my Ceriatone Chupacabra 50 amp in 60′s mode to get a nice clean tone. As you can hear you have a wide range of distortion at your fingertips, the low gain settings are definitely usable but the pedal really shines when you crank the gain up and play with the EQ. I also added a little extra demo onto the end of the video where I add a bit of crunch to the amp settings before engaging the Totenschlager and rolled the gain back to half way.
