I have tried a few Fuzz pedals but I’ve never found one that I really gelled with before until trying the T-Rex Tonebug Fuzz. Quite often the Fuzz effect is just to extreme for my liking and creates a bit-crushed kind of effect when run flat out, this pedal however is a much more dynamic kind of Fuzz that is usable in all ranges of the Fuzz control knob. The thing I like to do with a Fuzz is to try and get a kind of Eric Johnson Fuzz tone which he is so famous for, I found that this was achievable with the T-Rex Fuzz and I tried to show my approximation in the demo above. I also managed to get classic grunge tones by sweeping the tone knob around to cut some of the mids. As with all the Tonebug series pedals the thing that I love the most is the simplicity, there are just 3 control knobs for Level, Fuzz and Tone which worked beautifully with my Plexi style Ceriatone Chupacabra (60′s mode) amp running pretty clean. As you will hear if you crank the level and Fuzz up you can get some classic 70′s early Metal tones and rolling the fuzz back to minimum you get a nice crunchy overdrive kind of tone.
As you will see in my demo I’m powering the pedal with a T-Rex Fuel Tank Chameleon but it also has a easy access 9v Battery compartment on the bottom.
If you haven’t checked out the T-Rex Tonebug Series of pedals I encourage you to find a local dealer and go and try some of these great pedals out.
