The Drive 900 is an overdrive pedal based on a JCM900 from Indonesian Effects company Barokah Effector. It has two modes, Silicon and LED both with a very different character as you will hear in the demo above. I personally found that the Silicon mode was more compressed and a little darker with the LED mode being brighter with more presence, more like a Plexi kind of tone which reacts more to picking dynamics.
The MID control also offers 2 distinct voicings, either Modern (US) or Vintage (British) for further sculpting of your tone. In the first example of my video I show how you can use both of these voicings together (panned 50% L&R) to create a nice thick punchy rhythm tone. For even more variation you can experiment with the different clipping modes combined with the different MID voicings.
The pedal does operate from 9v – 18v if you want more headroom but for my demo I chose to run it at 9v using the Sanyo Pedal juice as I imagine most people will use a 9v power supply or battery. I also didn’t make any adjustments to the internal pre-gain trim pot as I found a great variety of tones straight out of the box.
