I’m not going to pretend I’m some kind of Flamenco expert but back in 1992 an incredible series of concerts were filmed for the Seville Expo featuring Paco De Lucia as well as the likes of Al Di Meola & John McLaughlin whom he shared the stage with and on other nights, Steve Vai Joe Satriani and Brian May among others. In 1992 I was in my first year of College (not Uni) and playing a lot of Classical guitar so I was intrigued by Paco’s effortless fingerpicking speed and amazing percussive right hand. It was very inspiring as a young musician.
Paco died, tragically, whilst playing with his children on the beach. My thoughts are with his family at this terrible time but they can be sure that his influence will live on with guitarists for generations to come. Paco De Lucia was a true master of the guitar and will be greatly missed.
