Fender seem to be having a lot of fun with their Pawn Shop series, and quite frankly I don’t blame them, this series of products gives them an outlet for the whacky and crazy ideas that the R&D team or designers conjure up that normally would be shelved as too “out there” for Fender. The new Vaporizer is a 12 watt all-tube amp powered by two 12AX7 preamp tubes and two 6BQ5/EL84 power tubes. The combo amp houses two 10” 16-Ohm Special Design Vaporizer speakers and has a spring reverb circuit independent of amp volume control, which creates a full, wet reverb for a moody “late-night” vibe and approximates the sound of playing in a tunnel. The included single-button “wedge” footswitch selects the “vaporizer mode” (bypasses volume and tone controls for full-strength overload, indicated by a red jewel light).

The styling, like all of the Pawn Shop series amps, is very retro and in Fender’s own words “evokes the 1950s-’60s age of the Space Race, when the atom-age world became enthralled with spaceflight and spacecraft… everything was bright, colorful and flashy.”

The Vaporizer is available in three colours, Rocket Red, Slate Blue and Surf Green.
