The Damian Murdoch Trio is an instrumental rock/funk fusion trio featuring Aussie guitarist Damian Murdoch and Austria’s Michael Posch (drums) and Harry Stöckl. The band are based in Vienna and regularly played shows around Austria so make sure you check the trio’s website for upcoming dates if you live in the area.
The reason I am posting about the Damian Murdoch Trio is that they have just released an album ‘Electric Tentacles‘ which I have been lucky enough to have in my mucky paws for a few weeks now and have been enjoying blasting their refreshing mix of instrumental Rock & Funk, think The Aristocrats with a bit of a harder edge and guitar lines that you could imagine Scott Henderson playing if he were a little more Metal. There is a nice mix of styles throughout to keep things interesting and fantastic musicianship from all three members who are all masters of their respected instruments. One thing I thought immediately is that it is hard to believe that when listening that this is a trio, the sound is pretty huge in places such as the rockier tracks, ‘The Eternal Search for the Alpha Jellyfish’ and ‘Visceral Circles of the Cosmos’. If you are in the mood for some instrumental Fusion along the lines of The Aristocrats then I would highly recommend you check out this album!
You can hear the track, ‘Funky Desert Rider’ below which is probably the most funk influenced track on the record:
