I recently contributed to a Kickstarter campaign by Arlen Roth to help make the Slide Summit album happen and I’m happy to say he successfully raised $25,000. The album will see the legendary Arlen Roth collaborate with Sonny Landreth, Johnny Winter, Rick Vito and many others. Now Larry Milburn is looking to fund a documentary of the making of this album to release as a DVD.
I met Arlen over a year ago and right away he started telling me about his idea for his next record and I knew immediately that I wanted to be a part of it. I also quickly realized that an integral part of this film should be the history of slide guitar, so I’m hoping to add that in as well.
“There have been recording sessions in CT, NY, and Nashville with some very dedicated and talented crew members who have donated their time and energy to make sure we have captured amazing footage that can eventually be edited into the film that I want to make but there is still much more to get. I need to film several interviews, gather some b-roll, and spend some time finding and clearing some archival photographs of legendary slide guitar players. Not to mention that once I finish the editing process there will be final color-correction and sound mixing that will need to be done to make the film look and sound even better. My goal is to raise the money needed by the middle of this Fall and have a finished film by the middle of February 2014. This film will not only have scenes of great guitar playing but I hope to include some perspective on the slide guitar in terms of it’s origins and lineage and how it’s morphed into the multitude of styles that currently exist.”
